Boston Acoustics brings out tiniest satellite speakers yet

Posted by Romain Fournier on July 2, 2009 in Electronics, Home & Garden

Boston Acoustics announced their new small and stylish SoundWare XS 5.1 Surround Speaker System, which is designed to let you set up a home theatre sound system without taking up huge amounts of floor space.

The system will consist of five small satellite speakers linked to a powered 8-inch, 100-watt subwoofer. The satellite speakers are the smallest the firm has ever produced, presenting a square face measuring around 10 cm. They should still produce good sound though, with a 2.5-inch (65mm) woofer and a 0.5-inch (13mm) tweeter.

The speakers are polyhedron shaped, letting you place them at various angles in the room. They also come with a mounting bracket so you can place them in corners, on walls, and angle them to provide the best placement for acoustics.

The company is only producing them in black and white, but the cabinets are designed to be painted easily if another colour is desired, according to the company.

The SoundWare XS 5.1 system should be available starting in late July, at a Canadian price of $599.ADNFCR-2437-ID-19248577-ADNFCR
