Canadians who are heading off to an exclusive party, a fancy restaurant, or who just want to dress up for a party at home should look to their feet this year. Yes, while waving goodbye to 2009, Canadian revelers should put their best foot forward - covered in the hottest shoes, of course.

According to the Vancouver Sun, shoes were a big trend in 2009. Perhaps Lady Gaga's sudden, bold and bizarrely fashionable rise was responsible, but the news provider thinks that shoes made a comeback.

For great heels, look to towering platform shoes, with extra height in the front. While not for the self conscious, these shoes make a statement almost as outrageous as Lady Gaga herself, thanks to the extra inches they add to the wearer.

The less flashy can wear jaw-dropping shoes to any New Year's Eve party and still blend in with the crowd, if they take the advice presented in the Globe and Mail. Ladies who wish to shine can do so, almost literally, in a pair of pretty gold heels. These million-dollar shoes need not cost the earth, but find a pair with brassy, bright straps to amp up your little black dress. Happy New Year!
